Little Dee has to be one of the only respected members of Grime who can switch between the genres with Rap and Hip-Hop and get away with it. Littles can sit easily on any of the three, and he hit Charlie Sloth's show way back in September to prove it. Sorry the video is a little old, blame Charlie, not me.
Nowadays Slix is moving more towards Rap than Grime, but as he states in the track, get him a good Grime beat, and he'll consider making a bit of Grime again. Seen It Again is the opening track of the Flee EP, it's also another video by the Ruff Sqwad member in a short space of time. Maybe we'll see more of Slix in 2011 then...
Mid-September 2010, and we all got a bit of a shock. Benjamin A.D recently linked up with Tom Jones for a track out of the blue, and Devlin re-making Fast Car/Slow Traffic with Paul Weller was also a bit of a shock. Out of no-where it seemed Mr. Weller got Devz to write his own lyrics for the track, and just a few days back the boy from Dagenham met the man himself again. The same day Devlin also performed the track Fast Car/Slow Traffic on stage. Check the video diary below of the day.
As for the new single, if you've got Bud, Sweat & Beers, you'll be familiar with this one. Track six entitled Let It Go featuring the producer of the year, Labrinth, is set to be released on the 23rd January 2011.
Straight after the Industry Special of I Luv Live, which saw performances from Random Impulse, Mz Bratt, and not forgetting Ed Sheeran, the Grime kicked off. With the beat provided via Marger's car, S-Star TV and Kids of Grime got their cameras out for Rival, Kozzie, Skanx, GT Solo, and of course Marger himself to spit a few bars. Don't forget to download Skanx' new freestyle entitiled Night Watch here.
Edit: More footage from the night added. Shot by S-Star TV.
The video shoot for the remake of the classic track Pow is under way. The shoot is split into three days which fit into everyone's schedule, and hopefully see Wiley show up. With the videos below you'll see JME get interviewed and explain his bars on Pow 2011, as well as a scene from P Money's part of the video.
There's many cameramen out there, but none of them are on par with Risky Roadz and their hood videos. Wobbling are as it was due to the heavy bass involved, today Risky Roadz present the hood video for Grime Ting by Marger. The dark video compliments the sounds of Marger's track lifted from the Kushwave EP which is out on the 12th December.
Regardless of his work-rate, there's no denying the talent Ice Kid has with his wordplay. He may not have the best back catalogue of music, infact, he still needs to drop a mixtape, but Talk of the Town has racked up over 390 thousend hits on YouTube in two years. Today he ruturns with some new lyrics...
Big Narstie has been around in Grime from the early days. He's seen the rise of Dizzee, the fall of Kano attempting to make Grime again with 140 Grime Street, and the watered down music of 'Electro Grime'. Never one to hold his mouth, especially with his Pain tracks, Big Narst lets rip at many mainstream artists who've hailed from Grime. There's a lot of real talk going on here from the N.A.A crew member...
Grime started peaking during summer this year. The likes of Kozzie, Rival, Merky Ace and M.I.K have increased their levels and are now real forces to recon with in Grime. But don't forget Marger is also amongst those names too. Flow Food Volume 2 got a good few thousend downloads, and Margs has gone from strength to strength from there. You've seen his face at raves, hear his voice on sets, and watched his hood videos on YouTube. In December it's time for some fresh Kushwave music. On the 12th December 2010, the Kushwave EP will be unleashed.
Family Tree have taken over this week. M.I.K showcased us a track from his 5 Hour Shift EP, and Faze Miyake come through with his remix of Greaze by Merky Ace. But it's the M.I and Merky link up we heard yesterday that stood out this week. As I said yesterday infact, if you don't know Grime in 2010, this is a perfect example.
Fresh off the Chosen Ones set, outside Kiss FM Jay Kast dropped a freestyle over Teddy's Barclays instrumental. S-Star TV also filmed inside the studio too, so expect to see footage from the night up on their YouTube channel and our blog very soon. Audio from the set will also be up later tonight apprently...
Many instrumentals have been rinsed dry this year. At the start of the year it was the Woooo Riddim and Pass Out, since leaking Pow 2011 has been too, but please let's not do the same to Game Over. Tinchy brought in the cream of the crop for the original track, then his Grime friends for the remix, now there's a female version.
Overall, it's not a bad track. The obvious stand-out names being Mz Bratt and Baby Blue who've been in the scene since the early days. Roxxxan from Nottingham proves why she's so highly rated, she's easily one of the best on the track. Another stand out name was Birmingham's Lady Leshurr. But, why are Ruff Diamonds on there? Didn't Wiley drop them from his 'tour'? Also, where's Shystie or even Ms. Dynamite? I can think of two names to drop from this line up with ease and replace them with them two...
Originally Rivals' Home Alone freestyle was meant to be on the One Year EP, but instead, it's now been given out as a free download and will feature on the Murder Edition of Return of the Rivz. Although Rival destroys the Mr Virgo production, don't worry, Rivz is still featuring on our free five track EP. The One Year EP will be out at the end of this month/start of December. Download Rival's Home Alone Freestyle here.
Many Grime artists have jumped on Dubstep this year, and it's no secret many Grime fans also love the genre of Dubstep too. On the 9th December, Shifted are having a launch party with Coki, Heny G, Raggs and the Soap Dodgers on the decks. And no stranger to the Grime scene Killa P will also be at the night himself. We've got two tickets to give away, all you have to do is hit the jump for the question.
Initially blogger turn journalist JP recommened Lewi White's beat to the Lewisham Grime MC, and it even made the tracklisting for Adventures of Dubstep and Beyond with the help of JP and Hyperfrank. Kozzie hooked up with Corey Davis of Creative Control a few weeks back to shoot a video for Back Again, and tonight we can finally view it. Download Back Again for free here.
As the release date for the One Year EP gets closer, it's only right to give you a little snippet of what's to come. Ralph Hardy has already span Nico Lindsay's Tempo Switchertrack, and it also went down well in a Dubstep rave last night in Camden. Tonight it's the turn of Doller Da Dustman who called upon Lauren Mason for a feature. This is just a snippet of what's to come. Like Nico's track, 500 views and I'll leak the full audio.
M.I.K and Merky Ace are constantly bringing out new tracks and hitting Grime raves on the regular, so don't be suprised if you recognise a few of these bars. The Family Tree duo have many reload bars, and for this hyped Spooky production they've decided to pull a few out the bag. For those who aren't too sure what Grime is in 2010, Shut Down is the perfect example...
Around three weeks back now, Rival and Marger were invited to perform at I Luv Live. The event features all unsigned artists with the backing of the house band. It's not the sort of event where you can show up and spit reload bars, as most of the crowd probably don't like or listen to Grime much. It's a mixed crowd of R&B, Soul, Indie, and a good few Hip-Hop and Rap fans. Not many Grime artists could step up and do what the Kushwave duo done on the night, as they explain during this interview...
Don't forget to pick up a Once Upon A Grime t-shirt here, there's only a few remaining. New coloured t-shirts and crew neck jumpers have been ordered, and will be avaliable within two weeks max.
Another one to look out for next year definitely this kid DeeKay. As well as writing lyrics, DeeKay also produces beats as well as being able to mix-down tracks too. The multi-talented Grime MC unleashed a new freestyle yesterday over Shyboyz Broken Silence beat. Download here.
When the hype was around the original mix of Slang Like This, it wasn't capatalised on enough. P Money would have got some bookings out of it like Tempz done with Next Hype, but the release itself took months to come out. A few weeks back, the official video was finally shot and thrown up on YouTube. Today the OGz frontman is looking to regenerate that hype as the re-release is going to be out in December. P Money brought in the legendary duo of D Double E & Footsie, aka the Newham Generals. OGz crew member Blacks also jumped on the remix of Sukh Knight's beat. If anything, this remix is sounding even better than the original. Let's hope the re-release goes well for P.
GreenStarh TV went behind the scenes in a studio session with Go Getter Doller Da Dustman with Y.Beezy also in the studio too. GreenStarh get a tour of the studio, behind the scene footage of what goes on during a recording session, and a little exclusive track recording too. One track that's already out which will feature on Doller's and Y.Beezy's join project is Cab Back, which you can listen to here. Check the studio session footage out below.
The OGz duo tour up and down the UK ripping stages apart literally nearly every other night it looks like. One of their latest gigs involved taking a trip down to the south-coast. It sounds like the night was a Dubstep night rather than a Grime one, but the two-some of P Money and Blacks can easily flow over either genre if need be.
A few days back we saw another freestyle by Romo for GrimeBlog, entitled Spit Your Game, and today the work-rate doesn't slow down. Last time the Birmingham based rapper spat over ZDot's beat, this time around he's vocalling a beat with DJ Predz' on the buttons.
As the year draws towards a close, it's pretty clear it's been a big year for UK music, and Tinchy has been one of those names involved in the wave of 2010. Whilst at T4 Stars, Stryder had a sit down and chatted about working with Cher Lloyd from X-Factor, Jay-Z, and who he wanted to see perform that night.
As we have about six white t-shirts left, and one small black t-shirt from the initial fourty, it's time to re-stock. As well as re-stocking the t-shirts, there's been some slight alterations and a couple new colourways. If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you should have seen them already, for those who don't here's the low-down.
First off, we've made the font slightly closer together. The word 'Once' has move down a tad, and 'Grime' up slightly. The second change being the type of t-shirt used. Initially we wanted Gildan Ultra, but had to settle with Gildan soft cotton. For the new batch of t-shirts, we're using our inital plan of Gildan Ultra t-shirts.
New colourways have also been added to the collection. There's been a high demand for purple this winter, so it was only right we jumped on the bandwagan to bring you our own version of the popular colour this season. As well as purple we've invested in a more neutral tone of grey with black font. But don't worry, if you think it's too cold for t-shirts, we've also got crew neck jumpers. There will be in the same colourways and designs as the new t-shirts. Black crew necks will also be added in the next few weeks too.
Our order is being processed as you read this. Everything should be ready by the end of the first week of December at the latest. Don't forget to take advantage of our sale via BigCartel.
Until then, I'll leave you with footage of Ed Sheeran who's worked with the likes of Slix from Ruff Sqwad, and has a collaboration with Griminal, and maybe Devlin coming up. See if you can spot what t-shirt Ed is sporting on Monday at I Luv Live...
You may think Diesle has been quite for a few months now, but he's been working hard behind the scenes. As well as sorting out a deal for his forthcoming single, I've Got the Power, Diesle has put together the free mixtape Another Contender. One of the track that you'll hear on the mixtape will be the video below, So Much Flows, shot by Lockdown Records. Another Contender out December 1st.
Remixes either go one way or the other, very good, or very bad, and with Faze Miyake on the buttons, you can guess which way this one swang. If the original was Grimy enough for you, this remix should fix that. Faze Miyake steps up and remixes Merky Ace's track Greaze and you won't be let down. Listen for the drop, and then you'll understand why Merky called it what he called it...
It seems everyone is jumping on the Bandcamp hype now. After giving out so many free downloads, you can't blame them for wanting a bit of cash back though. The latest to drop an affordable EP is South London's M.I.K. The Family Tree crew member releases the 5 Hour Shift EP for only £2.99 on Christmas Eve. Dimples features on Way Before, and with Flava D, Faze Miyake and Wiley on the buttons, you may as well skip that Subway for one day and spent the money on this download instead. Check out the first track from the EP, Trouble Maker Part 2 below.
If you follow Wiley on Twitter, or catch him on uStream, you'll probably know his love of Liverpool. You'll also know he likes to use a bit of auto-tune as well. Well today, the two become one in Party Pooper. If you downloaded the third Zip File from Wiley, you would of heard of this track by now, and recently a web video has popped up for the track. Looks and sounds like it would suit Channel AKA...
It turns out Tinchy wasn't the first person to get the Game Over beat. Back in the summer of 2009, Kano and Lazee were over in Sweden playing around with the Ishi production. For those who think they recognise Lazee's name, YouTube Hold On, that's maybe why. Below we've got the studio session of the duo of Sweden, and the original audio.
Bloodline's 9 Milli Major has been in the game for several years now, and the other night he hit DJ Cameo's show to spit a few bars on his Pirate Sessions show. As usual the standards were high and Milli Major spits a few bars most recognisable from his Pain track. Hit the link here to be taken to the BBC 1Xtra site to watch the video.
The Hip-Hop Chronicle caught up with the Star In The Hood recently for an interview to discuss everyone from his new album, to his next album, and the Def Jam game. Despite already just releasing Third Strike, Tinchy is eager to get back in the studio to make his fourth one, but he isn't going to stop at four. Stryder plans on creating a huge discography of music during his career. Tinchy also reveals in the interview who he thinks has the best verse on Game Over, and the remix...
Throughout 2010 there has constantly been new names coming through the ranks. Whether they've been around for a while and only just making a new from themselves, or they're fresh-faced Grime MCs working their way up the ladder, 2010 has been a good year for Grime. One crew that's going to make a bigger name for themselves in 2011 is Nationality. RD is one of the memebers from that collective, and here's the video for his latest track, Take Dem Out.
Taken from Slix' latest release, the Flee EP, the Ruff Sqwad member recently shot a video for Money. Alongside Benny Bizzle, the third track of the free download talks about, you guessed it, cash. If you know about Slix and/or Ruff Sqwad, then this won't come as a suprise to you...
The latest to skip over Teddy's Barclays beat is Kushwave's Rival. With Return of the Rivz still fresh in the minds of Grime fans, the extended Murder Edition is just around the corner. Rival built up a strong following this year despite only putting out one free EP, plus a string of free downloadable tracks. His hard-work and consistance at Grime raves is showing he has potential to be one of Grime's top boys in the long run.
Lifted from Mercston's recent free download, the Ventilation EP, today we've got a video for Training Day. Youngesters Maxsta and Big Shizz both feature on the bonus track from the EP, as does Opium. The bouncy beat has to be on of the best tracks off the EP, so it was a good decision by the former Movement member to get a hood video done for the track.
Many fans felt let down by Pow 2011, it was rushed, and didn't contain the names it should of. But don't worry, Skream has come in with a dirty Dubstep remix. For those who aren't too familiar with Dubstep, Skream is the producer who infamously remixed La Roux In For The Kill track. Skream has cut and chopped the track to give us his own spin on Pow 2011, and don't be suprised if you hear this in a few raves near you soon...
The Slew Dem crew member has been quiet of late. For his final track of the evening, Logan span Ring by Chronik. With Boy Better Know' JME on the buttons, you can't help but think Tempa T should done the 'ring' adlib instead...
A few days back, the BBC 1Xtra Soundclash took place at Brunel University, Uxbridge, West London. On the night there was two sides, Team Blue and Team Red. Dagenham's Devlin was one representitive for Team Blue, and BBK's Skepta was a Team Red member. The BBC has freshly uploaded footage from the night yesterday, with appearanes from Mz Bratt, Ace & Vis, and the infamous Tim Westwood. Hit the BBC's site herefor more video's and photo's from the night. Alternativly, check out Kids of the Underground photo's too on here blog here.
Last year it was "10 for 2010", and in a few weeks, look out for various websites doing their "11 for 2011", and I'll do one this year, unlike last. One of those names who'll be on my list is this man, Nico Lindsay (right). Nico can skip between Hip-Hop and Grime, and here's his latest feature. The North London hops on a beat by Jimmy Kaos for a new freestyle entitled Out of It, download here.
Lifted from the official Monkey Features Part 2 mixtape, last night Trim - You Aint got it's first play on Logan's show. One member of Ruff Sqwad made the beat, but we're not too sure which as Logan just says "Ruff Sqwad on the production", which doesn't give us much help at all...
Rude Kid is one of the best producers in Grime, and it looks like he's got a new release coming out very soon. The five track EP entitled Winter EP includes the likes of the Electric VIP, Spooky's Jack Daniels Remix, as well as Screwdriver. For any budding artists who's looking for new beats, I suggest you get this when it's released. Hit the jump for the tracklisting.
You can pretty tell by the name what Grime Blog do, but they don't blog the whole of the UK. The Midlands based website brings you the best talent from Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, and all the other surrounding areas. One of the best out of Brum being Romo, and here's his Spit Your Game freestyle via one of ZDots beats.
Every week there's a new refix from Random Impulse, and it doesn't look like he's slowing down yet. Despite being at a video shoot all day, Impulse still found the energy to stay awake and make this weeks refix. This time around he's chosen the new track by former Movement member Wretch 32, Traktor.
ZDot has worked with all the tops names in Grime this year, and he's decided to collect a few of these tracks, and give them away for free. Alongside the likes of Wiley, Ghetts, Griminal and Maxsta, ZDot has also thrown in seven instrumentals to match the six vocals. The beat that most people will want being Fire Bars it looks like. Doller, Maxsta and Big Shizz have already linked up for their version, and DeeKay has also shown us his spin on the track too, look out for a few more to come. Download the mixtape here, and hit the jump for the tracklisting.
There was only going to be one winner this week. Despite new tracks from Rival, Pow 2011 and Skepta x N-Dubz, Game Over Remix was the winner. Wiley leaked a new track with himself, Big H, P Money and Ghetts on it via uStream, but that couldn't even knock this track off the top spot. The original with Giggs, Pro Green and Tinie was good, but the Grimy remix was even better. Everyone from Ghetts, to Maxsta, and Slix went in on this track. Therefore, it had to be the winner. Check the official video below.
J Beatz is a young producer from North London, and despite being only eighteen, J has worked with several big names in the scene. Big H, Frisco and Badness are just a few of those names. After the This Is UK Grime CD launch party, S-Star TV caught up with J for an interview on who he's worked with, what he's got coming out release wise, and the skill of DJ'ing.
