Thanks to the internet phenonium YouTube, so many more unsigned and up-and-coming artists are now getting noticed. The best way? Videos. Dazzle last week got his new track Tired onto 1Xtra, now today, we've got the brand new video featuring Acen. It's a more toned-down track by the North Londoner, plus he's more political with his lyrics on this track compared to others.
Tinchy Stryder - How I Wrote Gangsta? [Video]
Tinchy performs his single Gangsta? for the Guardian and gives us a brief description of how or more like why he wrote the track. Overall, the track is quiet decent. I don't understand why Tinchy can't make more tracks like this. With a decent amount of promotion it could of charted well. Sixty-three isn't exactly the best position in the charts is it?
Fumin - Mood Swings [Artwork]
Fumin has been quiet recently, but it looks like it's because he's been tucked away in the studio. Fumes has shot the odd video this year, and besides throwing out a free download of all his old music, he hasn't put out anything really. Thankfully, he will soon. Mood Swings is going to be his forthcoming release, and over here at Once Upon A Grime, we'll keep you updated with all the latest information about the mixtape.
Crazy Titch - Pussy [Audio]
Lockdown Records are going to be responsible for putting out Crazy Time Volume 2, and here's a leaked track from that mixtape. Despite being locked up, Crazy has still been recording music, and he's improved since his departure. The best thing, it sounds like he's still got a bit of hype and excitment to his music...
Kano Live @ Candy Club [Video]
You can never go wrong when performing a classic track, and that's what Kano did the other night at Candy Club. The East Ham artist kicked off his set with the classic Grime track P's & Q's. Afterwards the former N.A.S.T.Y crew memeber moved onto one of his latest tracks, Rock N Rolla (skip to 3:53mins). Despite what you say about Kano and going mainstream, he can still get a crowd hyped up with his old Grime music. Kano finished the night with a track from his album London Town. This Is The Girl calmed the mood down for Kano to finish his set.
D Double E - Street Fighter Riddim [Video]
(Photography by Kids of the Underground)
Finally, we've got a video. Really it should of happend before the release of the single, but that's Grime. The guys behind the video for D Double E's latest single are the Grime photographer legends, Tim & Barry. The video is nothing special, but it gets the job done. Expect the lyrics to fly across the sceen in various colours and fonts, with the typical black background of your basic Grime video. Like I said, nothing special, job done.
Once Upon A Grime x Money Clothing Winners [Competition]
It's now officially August, and this means July's competition is now over. But don't worry, Augest's one is being arranged as you read. Expect more info in the next fourty-eight hours. Well, the first competition didn't go as well as I though, but hopefully the next won will. Over at Once Upon A Grime, we had three Money Clothing t-shirts to give away, and here are the winners. We've got Sam from Redditch, Mike from Bognor and last but not least, Gordan from West Lothian, Scotland. Sorry if you didn't win, but there's going to be many more competitions with great prizes coming up. Congratulations to the winners though!
Vote For Your Top DJ Of 2010 [Voting/Free Download]
Every year this is done, and Grime is yet to represented. The best choice would be Kiss 100's Logan Sama no? Or maybe Rinse FM's Teddy or Spyro? JJ could even get a shout too. 1Xtra has DJ Target and MistaJam. The list is endless. Whoever you feel has been the best DJ this year, let the guys over at Top100DJs.net know. The best part, sign up, and get a free download. I personally went for Doctor P's Sweetshop after wanting it for ages, but never getting around to it. I recommend getting D Double E's Street Fighter Riddim though. Check your confirmation email for the link to the free download.
Big H & 9 Milli Major @ Just Jam 014 [Audio]
(Photography by Kids of the Underground)
Thirteen may be unlucky for some, but not for Just Jam. After Bloodline never showed up the other week, the guys rolled through and showed the crowd what they should of done a few weeks back. The theme of the night on Wednesday being the cream of Dubstep, so expect a lot of that when listening. So, anybody know the release day of Fire and Smoke yet? Download here.

Fatal 64, Dream Mclean & Délio Lima - Shine Regardless [Audio]
A more darker style from Dream Mclean this time around. We've heard Dream skip over a few Dubstep tracks now, and he settles on Grime with ease. Shine Regardless features heavy electric guitars, plus, regardless of it being tagged as Grime, it sounds more like Rap more than anything. What'd you think? Make your own judgements...
Tinchy Stryder - In My System (Acoustic) [Video]
The F64s have been put on hold, but SB is still shooting Acoustic 64s. The latest artist to jump infront of the camera being Ruff Sqwad's very own Tinchy Stryder. The Star In The Hood performed his new single In My System, and this is the first time it's ever been performed acoustically. The single is out on August 8th, don't forget to add that to your music collection.
Dot Rotten - Freestyle [Video]
A quick brand new freestyle from the man they call Dot Rotten. Dot this week killed the Lemonade beat at the MistaJam UKG sound clash. Dubstep faced Grime in the final, and you can guess who won that clash. Rotten drops a acapella freestyle for the Grime Daily cameras, and let's hope fresh material is to follow this...
D Double E - Street Fighter Riddim (Live) [Video]
When I checked earlier in the week, Street Fighter Riddim was sitting at number one-hundered and seventeen in the iTunes charts and fourteenth in the Hip-Hop charts. Tonight though, for some reason I can't find it though. Either way, D Double E recently performed the track live and GSI TV were at the performance and caught everything on camera for you Grime fans.
Slix - B.M.F Freestyle [Free Download]
It's not been long since Slix released his free download Daddy's Home, and he's already working on another EP as we speak. When I interview Slix not long back (here), he said how he's spent a lot of time in the studio, and he wasn't lying. Here's a brand new freestyle from the man, and look out for the Flee EP dropping soon. Download the track here.
Context - Fire In The Phone Booth [Video]
The Fire in the Phone Booth videos may be Hip-Hop, but occasionally there is that certain name that stands out. The latest being Norwich based artist, Context MC. Despite not blogging much about him, I've been following his progress a few months now. Context recently hooked up with Elijah and Well Red for the track Feeling Alone, so the guy is making moves. It's also a free download, hit the link for it here.Check out his latest freestyle below.
Lee Brasco - Intro [Video]
The introduction to a mixtape or album is very important. Ghetts' intro for Calm Before the Storm set the scene for the rest of the CD, and we all know how well that turned out. Lee Brasco has gone one step further and shot a video for his intro. Deep with the Lines being the name for his forthcoming mixtape, and if this is the standard of the rest of the download, then it'll be worth a listen to say the least.
Two Tinchy Stryder Interviews [Video]
The ever present T-Strydes has been touring all summer. He's hit several festivals and raves this summer, and with that, many interviews. Here's his latest two interviews. We've got a interview with ITN News with quickfire questions for Tinchy. This is a more informal interview, and it's not your usual boring interviews about 'when's your CD out?', 'who's your favourite person to work with?' or 'how did you start rapping?'. Just a interview full of completely random questions.
The second interview is with American recording artist Melanie Fiona. Tinchy talks about his top five MCs from within the UK. It's pretty much the usual names. But Dizzee Rascal and Kano as MCs? I don't remember them hitting any radio sets and freestyling recently Tinch. Artists, maybe...
iCon & Deekay - RM.TV Freestyle [Video]
Two of GKR's member recently jumped infront of the Real Music Televsion camera for a freestyle. Deekay (above) is one of the best youngers coming through the ranks in Grime. For those who want to hear more material from him, don't worry, a mixtape is coming very soon I've been told. iCon also holds it up for the GKR camp which features Maxsta. Another younger name in the Grime scene who's holding it up for the younger generation.
Dizzee Rascal @ Lovebox Festival [Video]
There isn't much money in selling music anymore, it's all about touring. Hitting raves in the cities, festivals in the countryside, that's where the cash is. Building a fan base by doing this is how you break into the industry, especially if your from the Grime scene. Dizzee recently hit the Lovebox festival and got the usual reaction from the crowd, hype.
Jack Jones Feat. Dot Rotten - Making The Tea [Video]
I'm a bit late with this video, and was considering not even posting it, but here it is. Dot Rotten (right) hasn't released anything solo for a while now, but he's featured on many tracks though. Dot's mainly been on the hook of those tunes too. His latest feature comes alongside rapper Jack Jones with the video being shot by Morgan Keyz of SB.TV. It's Rap, not Grime though...
Avalanch - Mad One [Video]
I finally got my hands on a copy of No Invitation today by Avalanch, and here's one of the tracks turnt into a hood video. Track eight and the Exo Remedy production entitled Mad One recently had a video shot by Gatman TV. The video was shot around North London, plus it's not a bad little video. One of Avalanch's first, so expect them (the videos) to get better and better....
Also don't forget to check out Someone Stop Me by Avalanch too.
Jammer, P Money & Kozzie @ Ministry Of Sound [Video]
WickedTV have hit many raves recently, and they've brought back some pretty good footage for us too. This time around we've got Boy Better Know' Jammer alongside OGz P Money (above) plus Kozzie on the microphone. It's been a growing trend that started at the back-end of 2009 during sets, and it's continued into 2010. Yep, you've guessed it, Dubstep. Once again we've got P Money killing the Dubstep beats with Jammer and Kozzie in the wings.
Doller Da Dustman Feat. Delusion - Act Loose [Audio]
Once again we've got Doller Da Dustman spitting over a ZDot production. It's no secret that the duo work closely together. Act Loose featuring Delusion is taken from Doller's forthcoming mixtape, the Art of Rhyming. With the chorus "I be getting the girls to act loose", it sounds like Ghetts' track I'm Ghetts. Doller also refers to Wiley's chart-hit Wearing My Rolex within this track too.
Devlin - ZDot Freestyle [Free Download]
Last week Devlin's latest freestyle was span on Logan Sama's Grime show. With ZDot on production once again, you knew it would be gritty and Grimy. For all those who wants the CD quality of the track, your in luck. Via Devlin's official website, today you can pick it up by simply signing up to the site. Therefore, head over the www.OfficialDevlin.com, sign up, download. If you want to hear it before download, I've uploaded it to YouTube (below).
Rude Kid - Electric VIP [Radio Rip]
Electric was one of the most wanted instrumentals in 2009. Today Grime fans and Dubstep fans are still debating whether it's a Grime or Dubstep track. After a long wait, Rude Kid finally put the instrumental out via his new CD, Are You Ready? The other night the VIP of Electric was played on Mista Jam's show. It's going to probably be the same reaction as to the original. A new fresh twist, plus another long wait until we can hear the full quality...
D Double E - Lyrical Farda [Radio Rip]
(Photography by Kids of the Underground)
Blowing his own trumpet with the title of the track, we've got Newham Generals member D Double E, but can you blame him? DEE has been in the Grime scene from the start, and he's one of the best, if not the best in the scene. Even though the Street Fighter Riddim track was released the other day, D Double still has tracks ready for release and radio air time. Don't forget, Bluku Bluku EP is out soon...
Also don't miss his quick set on Westwood the other night. Listen here.
Also don't miss his quick set on Westwood the other night. Listen here.
Darq E Freaker - Ultra [Free Download]
The man who was behind the Grime track of 2009 is back. For those who don't know, Darq E Freaker (left) produced Tempa T's underground hit Next Hype. Darq E is back with a brand new track, and it's up for free download too. Ultra is the name, and it's also the name of his clothing range too. A bit of multi-promotion there. Many expected the free download to be a beat, but it's Darq E back spitting bars at a rapid pace. Download Ultra here.
Big H - Wake Up [Radio Rip]
Finally we've got some fresh material from Big H. For his latest track Wake Up which was produced by Flash G, Big H uses the same flow as he did on the track Nitemare off Street Crime UK. H jumped on Flash G's Trial and Terror Remix instrumental for the track Wake Up which Logan Sama played in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Let's hope now that this track has been put out there, we're closer to hearing Fire and Smoke than we thought...
Tinchy Stryder @ Vice Creators Project [Video]
As well as Jammer and C-Gritz, plus Mumdance on the decks, Tinchy Stryder was another Grime name at the Vice Creators Project the other week. At 2am, the Star In The Hood jumped on the stage to kick the night off with Gangsta before moving onto his new single, In My System. During the interview, Tinchy touches on his forthcoming album entitled Third Strike. That'll be avaliable this November.
Wiley - Paving The Way [Audio]
Wiley is at it again, another free track. This one isn't Grime though. But it's the latest from Wiley's clean slate of music. It's a pop track if anything, but it's more of a mellowed out from what seems a very happy Wiley. Yet again, Will is singing and using the auto-tune button. He seems to be doing more and more of this in recent years. Check the audio below, and download here.
Jammer & C-Gritz Making A Track @ Vice Party [Video]
With alcohol flowing through their system at a rapid pace, you can only guess what this original track was about. Alongside Jammer and C-Gritz, Mumdance also helped out with the track. In just under an hour the trio made a pop track infront of an audiance at the recent Vice Creators Party. There's a rough cut of the track over at the Vice website (here), but here's a video of the guys making the track.
Edit: YouTube audio added of the track

Crazy Titch - SB.TV Interview [Audio]
The interview is a bit sketchy at times, but overall, it's great to hear from Crazy T. He's been inside a few years now, and Grime has developed like many genres of music via the internet. Not having the internet in prision, Crazy has kept up to date via television, Logan Sama's show and 1Xtra. The interview is around twenty-three minutes long, and a lot is covered during the phone interview. Titch touches on selling out, and he says he would of done the same and doesn't blame Chipmunk for doing so. The subject of his mixtape was also arisen. Crazy Times Volume 2 is done and dusted, plus there's also two other projects in the pipeline too. Although he doesn't have the internet inside, Titch has heard of SB.TV, but not of the winner Black the Ripper. That shows how long he's been locked up, he's twenty-seven now bear in mind. Of course though, he talks about the beef with Dizzee Rascal and what he thinks of him nowadays too...
Grime x Dubstep x Bassline x Funky On 1Xtra [Audio]
This weekend, the Grime scene nearly went as mad as when Wiley released 203 free tracks. This time though it was Grime artists battering the poor Funky and Bassline MCs in a clash. Grime also provailed and beat Dubstep, but Dubstep was represented by more Grime artists. These include the Newham Generals, P Money (above) and Mz Bratt. So really, Grime came first and second. Everyone from Stay Fresh' Macca to Maxsta to Ruff Sqwad represented Grime. Let's face it though, when Maxsta jumped on Wiley's Eskimo beat, it was confirmed it was over for the other genres. Max also spat over other Grime classic beats too. Check all the audio below which is also avaliable to download. Shouts to Lemon of Grime Forum for all of this.
Rax - Ignorance [Audio]
Although it has a video with the audio, it's a rip of Rax's recent performance which featured on Being N-Dubz in recent weeks. That show being at What's Next? Rax of Clear Cut Entertainment has been quiet for a good few months now, but it looks like he's hit the studio and hopefully got a few new tracks lined up too. His most recent being this one, which he's entitled Ignorance. Not so much Grime this one, but a freestyle using the same beat as Common used for Come Close.
Rude Kid - The Best VIP Instrumental [Track Of The Week]
Yet again, it's a day late, but here it is, the Track of the Week. Also, this is the first time an instrumental has been track of the week. The Best VIP instrumental is the beat used for Ghetts' track Still Singing off Calm Before the Storm. It's a remix by Rude Kid himself, hense, the VIP part. The original beat was used for Ghetts' release Sing for Me. Basically, it's Sing for Me Part two. The best part? It's also up for free download. Check out the instrumental below, and download here.
Little Dee (Blue Borough Presents) - The Blue Tapes [Free Download]
Like many free downloads nowadays, this popped up out of no-where. I've said many times now Little Dee took a break to pen new bars, and you've noticed this in new freestyles recently. Well, here's the result. For those who don't know, Blue Borough is the nickname for a town called Lewisham in South London. Therefore, everyone on the download will be from the area. This includes P Money and Blacks, as well as Tommy Bones and Skandal. Overall, it looks like a potentially very good mixtape. Let's hope it lives up to the expectations. Download it here, and check the tracklisting after the jump.
Kwam & Nico Lindsay - UGM Freestyle [Video]
(Photography by Kids of the Underground)
Fresh from the studio and off the back of the Over video, Kwam and Nico Lindsay (above) drop a freestyle for Underground Music. Both of these guys have been slowly building a loyal fanbase this year. Nico recently has made a huge amount of Hip-Hop compared to Grime, but he can flow over both genres with ease.
Also, don't miss their other recent freestyle with Avalanch, Wreckage and Vigilant.
ZDot - Route To Success [Free Download]
ZDot has been consistant with his work this year, and the levels of his producing have been high, just like his workrate. The Route to Success free download will show you just that. It's a mixture of both vocals and instrumentals. Ghetts features three times, Doller Da Dustman also has two tracks on there, plus Manchester's Wrigley makes a feature too. ZDot's collaboration with Brutes is also avaliable on the download. Download Route to Success here, and check the jump for the tracklisting.
Tempa T - No Hats, No Trainers (Behind The Scenes) [Video]
(Photography by Sweet and Sound)
As angry and aggressive as Tempa T can be on the microphone, off it, he's far from it. Tempz shows us his lighthearted funny side on the regular, and here's another video with it. Tempa T keeps calm and casual throughout filming and seems to be enjoying himself too. As well as being one of the most hyped artists in Grime, he has to be one of the funniest too...
Dazzle - Fire In The Phone Booth Freestyle [Video]
Fire in the Phone Booth has now officially hit double figures. The tenth person to step up a spit a quick style is eighteen year old Dazzle from North London. If you check the blog on the regular, you would have heard his track Tired that got played on the BBC Asian Network the other night (here). This time around, Dazzle spits over a Hip-Hop beat.
Ghetts - Grime Daily (Behind The Scenes) [Video]
Most behind the scenes are usually about three or four minutes of pointless and random clips from the day, but Grime Daily haven taken this one step further, and it's not thirteen minutes long. During the behind the scenes of the track entitled Grime Daily (taken from Calm Before the Storm), you'll catch glimps of the video itself, Ghetts answering a few questions, plus the usual banter of making a video. Also, check the quality of Grime Daily's new camera...
Also, don't missed Ghetts tonight at Re:Definition.
D Double E - SB.TV Interview [Video]
(Photography by Kids of the Underground)
Now SB has hired a young female presentor, his interviews have become miles better. She does have serious questions, but then balances them with a few informal questions too. This gives the interview a more relaxed vibe and keeps it interesting. SB's latest musician infront of the camera is one half of the Newham Generals, D Double E. Of recent times, DEE has been a lot more vocal than his pal Footsie, and Streetfighter is set to be released on teh 26th of this month. As well as touching on the new single, D Double also talks about working and touring with Dizzee, balancing family life and music, plus the usual non-sence of todays interviews...
Rude Kid - The Best VIP Instrumental [Free Download]
The Calm Before the Storm has just recently been released by Ghetts, so it's suprising Rude Kid has decided to leak an instrumental for one of the tracks. For his latest free download, Rude Kid has leaked the Best VIP instrumental, more commonly known as the Still Singing instrumental. A VIP is a remix by the original creator of the track. Ghetts originally used the Best instrumental for Sing For Me for those who don't know. Listen to it below, and download here.
Smurfie Syco - A.S.B.O Freestyle [Video]
If you've followed Smurfie Syco from his earlier days, you would of known that he also produces the odd bit of Dubstep on the side. From that, you can gather he's a big lover of the genre. Here's a quick little video of the man signed to Dizzee Rascal's lable (Dirtee Stank), spitting over Sub Focus' Rock It track.
Bashy - The Shine Shine Tour Blog (Part 2) [Video]
This time around, we follow Bish Bash Bosh on the final part of Chipmunk's Shine Shine tour. The final cities to be graced by the likes of Chipmunk, Marvell, Wretch 32, Loick Essien, and of course Bashy include Bristol, Bournmouth, Lincoln, Liverpool and Manchester. It's simply a video diary of behind the scenes when Bash is on tour. It's also good to see Bashy appreciates the real supporters, the ones who were there from the beggining. Unlike some artists who forget they come from the Grime scene once they make it big...
Dizzee Rascal Leads The Way For The Mercury Nominations [Video]
The most sucessful Grime artist Dizzee Rascal is leading the way for album of the year for the Mercury nominations. Tongue N' Cheek was so good that Dizzee went back to the studio, recorded a few more tracks, then re-released the CD. Off the re-release, one of the new tracks went straight to number one - Dirtee Disco. Tongue N' Cheek has already sold well over 300,000 units, and that's increasing daily. Dizzee Rascal has already picked up two awards this year too. Best British Male and Best International Act at the Brit Awards, maybe a third award is on the charts...
ZDot - Route To Sucess [Artwork]
Originally, this was mean't to be out on the 18th of this month. As you could of guessed, it's been pushed back, but you can't knock ZDot's workrate though. ZDot works closely with Doller Da Dustman, and recently had five of his productions on Ghetts' Calm Before the Storm album. As well as that, he's also putting out another release which will be out on the 30th August (Fire Power EP). The Route To Sucess though will be a free download. Watch this space for more information on the release.
Kano On The Last Ever RnG Show [Video]
DJ Grind brought a hold to his radio DJ career a few weeks back, and Get Wild star Kano was his last ever guest. The East London born rapper dropped by to spit a freestyle over Tinie Tempah's Pass Out instrumental, answer a few random questions, and also talk about his new album, Method to the Madness.
Tinchy Stryder x Nike Competition [Video]
Whenever Tinchy steps on stage, he's always wearing some sort of Nike trainer. This time around, it's your chance to get your own pair for free thanks to Tinchy's blog and Nike. The duo have linked up to give away a free pair of trainers every month for a year. Every month Tinchy will run the competition, and the winner of each month will get a new pair of exclusive Nikes for a year. Not bad eh? Check the video to find out how to win.
Once Upon A Grime Meets Lee Brasco [Interview]
Lee Brasco hasn't been screaming and shouting his name from the Grime rooftops recently, so I caught up with the man from Bow to see what's up with him. We talked about his new project, what he thinks of the youngers in Grime, plus about MCs lying in their lyrics.
