Now I forgot to post the link to his mixtape, but I will at the end of this little blog. Jammz' mixtape has been already rated as one of the best free downloads of 2010 by some, and this shows why. This track opened my eyes to the potential Jammz has if he keeps his standards so high. The beat is simple, melow, and does the bars justice. It has that old skool feel to it. Remember when you was on the verg of listening to Grime but still had American Hip-Hop banging out your speakers, it reminds me of this for some reason. Download Jammz - What The Latest here.
G FrSh - Urban 24 Interview
As I've said before, the Grime / Hip-Hop & Rap barrier is getting broken down quickly. Grime fans are starting to listen to the other two genres, and those genres are taking notice of what's happening in our beloved scene. G FrSh is one of those artists who is breaking down that wall. Recently he hooked up with Urban 24 for a interview to talk about his recent mixtape (Legoman - Where's My Bricks), working with Tinie Tempah and about FrSh Productions.
Wiley - Ice Rink (Royal-T Remix) [Free Download]
(Photo taken by Kristian @ Threefold Media)
Back in 2008, then still trying to make a name for himself, Royal T picked up the classic Ice Rink instrumental made by the Godfather of Grime Wiley. A couple years down the line, with his name more established within the Grime scene, he's decided to unleash the beat upon our chosen music players and has given it away for free. Check the beat below and click here to download.
Hammer - Silence Man (Live)
As well as getting the track 'Mic Check Remix' featuring Gracious K and Tribal Magz played on Choice FM the other night, Hammer gave a live performance of his track 'Silence Man'. The track produced by Silencer is taken from Hammers now free EP, the 'Hurricane City EP'. 'Mic Check' is out now on iTunes, download here.
Teeza - The Secret Level EP (Release)
A couple weeks back, a showreel popped up for this EP, now it's finally here. Teezas latest release coming in the style of video game inspired beats. Sonic features on the cover, and it sounds like the theme music played a part in the first track. From the outset, you know it's going to be a decent little four track EP. I can't quite put my finger on the where I've heard the bassline before used in track two, Jaggernaut. Track three, Maniac, has a decent drop to it and Mean Machine being the fourth and final track has a more dark electric sound to it. It's swerving slightly towards flirting with Dubstep the wobble on this one. Correct me if I'm wrong. Pick all four up for technically less than fiftey pence a track here where you can also listen to the tracks before you buy them.
Black The Ripper Feat. Dimples - Weedman [Video]
If your going to shoot a video about weed, where else to shoot it other than Amsterdamn? North Londoner Black the Ripper released a mixtape containing all old and new tracks, a total of sixty, here's one of those tracks converted into a video. The instrumental sounds a bit Wiley inspired. It has that sort of Eskimo bubble to it from back when Grime was just a past time, not a business. Get the Edmonton Dream here on iTunes, and here on Amazon.
Tempa T - Live Performance
Tempa T as usual tears the rave down. This time he's playing the more club friendly versions of his hit 'Next Hype' for the crowd. The best part for me is at the start when the crowd can't even get the words right. Reminds me of girls at a house party trying to singalong like they actually know the song. Don't switch off when the female skankers come on the video, Tempz continues to get wheels with his hype bars for a short period of time. If your a fan of your Garage music, after Tempa Ts little performance, Bushkin and Mighty Moe make a appearance too.
Lee Brasco - Media Motives Freestyle
Grime veteran Lee Brasco does a quick freestyle for Media Motives spittin' in his latest bars, and to be fair, they are nothing below brilliant. "Leave you feeling pissed like you wet the bed...", Lee has taken time and thought into these hard and catchy bars, and it will pay off for the Bow resident. Also, there was a sneaky video uploaded tonight, by the time I refreshed the page, it had be removed. It also says on the above banner it was mean't to drop last night (Tuesday), hopefully it'll be here by the end of today (Wednesday)...
Edit: Here's the video. Quick 32 bars.
Lee Brasco - Real Life
Badness Feat. Skepta & Lil Nasty - Nightmare Remixes
Earlier in the day, I discovered that Dubstep producers Cotti and Coki had done a remix of Badness' latest track alongside Skepta and Lil Nasty. Thanks to Badness, he's redirected me in the direction of two more remixes of the forthcoming single of 'Nightmare'. The other two remixes coming in the styles of Drum and Bass producer Mensah, and Bassline by Bassboy. The Mensah remix being my personal favourite with his version of Dubstep. He stepped out of his Drum and Bass box to make this banger. All three remixes are going to be released on the 12th April on vinyl, then on the 26th April for those of you who listen to your music digitally by Hench Records. Listen to the Mensah and Bassboy remixes over on RWD Magazines website (here), and catch the Cotti and Coki remix below.
Ghetts - Interview + Live Performace
Ghetts was recently in Milton Keynes to performe and as well as doing this, Licious Entertainment caught up with the one time Movement member. The trip to MK shows how Grime has spread throughout the country and how Grime gone from an unprofessional way to pass the time to a career. Licious Ent. get the clique question out of the way straight at the start, what does Ghetts make of the whole him vs P Money situation? It turns out, Ghetts will clash P for ironically, the right amount of P (money). It's quite a brief interview, but it's worth a watch.
Sway - Comfortable Freestyle [Video]
I think there's going to be four videos shot from the Delivery mixtape (download here), and here's the second. The first being a video for 'How Low Freestyle', the second also being for a freestyle. The original being Beyonce - 'Irreplaceable', which got remixed and Lil Waye spat over it, 'Comfortable', and now Sway has had a go. With connections like Akon, I can't see it being that hard to get these instrumentals. I personally think this is one of the better tracks off the free download. Sway is slyly picking up a bit of a American accent if you listen carefully.
Fangol - NG Musik Freestyle
You'll probably remember the Nottingham MC for getting about four wheels on Logans show last year. The funny thing is, nobody even knew Fangol (back row, centre, black hat). He randomly bumped into J2K, spat some bars for him, and J brought him to Kiss. From that, as the infamous saying, the rest is history. He recently popped up again though via a freestyle for NG Musik. Fangol spits over Silencers beat from 'Run the CD' named 'Regulation'. The Notts MC gives us a quick reminder why he got that many wheels on Logans show that night.
Hydro - Blowing Up (Shank OST) [Video]
Just like with Kidulthood and Adulthood, there was a competition to get your track on the official sound track (OST) CD. This time around for the film Shank, sixteen year old Hydro won that competition, and it was a good choice by the judges. Fresh off the release of the film, Hydro has decided to shoot a video for that specific track with Quason Matthews. It's a decent enough video actually. Not your standard hoods up and wonder around the streets at night hood video, time and effort have gone into this one.
Skandal - Home Economics (Free Download)
As of yesterday, the 'A Quick Snap EP' was released by Skandal with all the beats done by Beat Butcha. To celebrate that, here's a free download from the EP itself entitled 'Hood Economics'. Yes it is UK Hip-Hop, but I'm sure that not everyone on this blog stricktly listens to Grime, so here's a change. Download the EP with features from Klashnekoff and P Money from iTunes here, and get track two for free here.
Kwam - Wicked TV Freestyle
Now sitting behind the camera rather infront of it, Scarcious' latest video comes in the style of a Kwam freestyle. Just like many artists have done before over the past year or so, Kwam spits over a Silencer beats, now prefered to be called Teddy for obvious reasons. The barrin' goes on for about four minutes, and Kwam does a decent job of doing it. He kept my interest throughout, so the bars can't be that bad in that sence of the term. Overall, a decent freestyle with a good choice of the beat. The only downfall being that the instrumental drowned out Kwam a little, and his voice could have been louder. Those are minor things though, practise makes perfect and all that...
Roll Deep - Good Times TV Episode One
Yep, Roll Deep have jumped on the bandwagon. The fly on the wall TV as it's known. In the first of many it looks like, you catch a DJ Target, Manga, Scratchy, Brazen and Breeze at the Virgin Records HQ as well as in Liverpool. You'll also see the usual attention seekers when they see a camera. Don't forget, 'Good Times' out April 26th.
New Star In The Hood Logo
The t-shirts have been floating around for a few years now. I remember having the original green on black ten pound version. Let's just say the brand has come a long way since then, and so has it's creator, Tinchy Stryder. It looks like there finally is going to be a official S.I.T.H logo. Not a bad logo. Something simple, but effective. Via StarInTheHood.Net.
Siris – Filthy Riddim Freestyle
Like Ghetts and Maxsta before him, Siris of Regrime jumps on the Filthy Riddim produced by Flukes. This is a good beat, and like Pass Out and Woo Riddim, I hope this doesn't get rinsed out. It's nice when there's healthy competition, but it does get dead quickly sometimes. With a Grime legend and a up-and-coming Grime star before you, it's always going to be hard to reach their levels. Siris gives it a decent attempt with his version of Filthy Riddim.
Hammer Feat. Gracious K & Tribal Magz - Mic Check Remix [Radio Rip]
The original is more of a Funky / Dance track in the first place, so getting two artists who created dances up and down the country to go mad when their skank song came on isn't a bad move. Don't think I've gone soft, this is a decent track. You know there is that occasional song that comes along that's not your usual style of music, but for some reason you like it, this one is mine. It has that sort of old skool dance feel to it, that's maybe why I sit and rock to it at home. J-Swizzy on the buttons for this one. If your on Facebook, check out the 'Mic Check' launch party in assosiation with I Luv Live here. Don't forget to check my recent interview with Hammer as well here.
Skepta, Giggs, Tinie Tempah & Tinchy Stryder - Piano Covers
The latest video by the Grime Angels is full of UK Urban tracks played by an eighteen year old called Parag. He knows his stuff. He's done various covers of tracks from Cam'ron to Kanye West to Mariah Carey. Parag recently hooked up with the Grime Angels to play a few new tracks on his piano. Those being Skepta - Bad Boy, Giggs Feat. B.o.B - Don't Go There, the number one hit by Tinie Tempah - Pass Out and Tinchy Stryders song with Amelle of the Sugababes - Never Leave You. His talent is amazing. He's picked up the tracks really well, and I personally enjoyed it. Flick through other videos done by visiting his YouTube page here.
S-X- Slow Down (Instrumental) [Free Download]
Back at the end of 2009, Stay Fresh shot a video for their track '16 for 16'. Behind the scenes on the buttons was the producer who has recently shot to fame within the Grime scene, S-X. The Midlands based producer has decided to give away the instrumental he used for that Stay Fresh track. The production entitled Slow Down. At first I wasn't sure if this beat had been leaked or it was official, turns out S-X has released it as a free download. Therefore, check it before you download below, and get the download link here.
Devlin - Interview + Behind the Scenes
With fame comes sponcership deals. Everyone wants you to endourse their products. The upside, free goods and cash, the downside, some people claiming your a sellout. Some how, I don't think this'll happen with Devlin, the sell out part anyway. Devz has previously done work for Boxfresh and Duffers, now he turns his hand to Nickelson. RWD Mag catches up with the Outakers man for a quick interview and also behind the scenes of his day of modelling. If you missest Devlins latest track with Giggs the other day, listen to it here.
Wiley - Space Invader
Wiley has taken his music in a new direction recently. He's gone more electro with his sounds. Long gone are the Eskimo days. He's also been playing with the auto-tune button a lot more too. I've noticed this on the new tracks he's making with the recent establishment of the A-List.
Marval Feat. Benjamin A.D & Rax - Upset (Release)
Today is the release of the track entitled 'Upset' by Marval featuring Benjamin A.D and Rax. If you downloaded the Clear Cut Ent. Promo (here) you would of heard a preview of the track at number four. Ben AD and Rax being on the vocal, amd Marval on the buttons for the beat. Alongside the original, there's three remixes and even the instrumental if your interested. It's avaliable from the most popular place for downloads, iTunes, everyones alternative choice, Amazon, and even Juno are selling it. Click the highlighted names to get taken to that site to download the track, and check the preview below.
Lady Leshurr / Realist - F64
The latest in the long line of F64s comes from Birminghams female artist Lady Leshurr as well as Realist getting a shot at it.
Lady Leshurr holds it up for the Birmingham scene and proves it not just a man game, but it is always going to be male dominated. For her choice of beats, she chose the instrumental of the moment, the Woo Riddum. The beat also being produced by another person from Midlands, the producer known as S-X of the Stay Fresh collective.
"Both hands up like it's ten to two..." Realist no doubt goes in on this on. It's no exactly Grime to be fair, but Realist has bars. It's pushing more towards UK Hip-Hop. What SB is doing to promote artists is brillient. He's built his own platform, and now he's helping push forward artists who were in the same sort of postition as him at one point.
Marvell vs You? Update
The four crews have been chosen, and it's now down to you the Grime fans to vote for your favourite to clash Marvell. Sadly there's no Family Tree or even GKR, they would of ripped apart the Marvell boys. Instead there's three crews who I think won't come close to Marvell in a clash, but there is one. Star Terror. If ST don't win the vote, then sorry, Marvell will win. Star Terror are the best out of the four for me, and have the best chance of beating Marvell. Check all four of the videos here on RiskyRoadz.com.
No Lay - B.T.I.L.L. (Free Mixtape)
She's featued on the Adulthood OST, spat a Jail Tale for BBC Three and a F64 for SB.TV, so there's no doubt the girls got talent. No Lay as of this weekend releases a free mixtape download via the infamous SK Vibemaker. Of course it's not going to be 100% Grime, far from some of the tracks, but since she's good at spitting and featured with various Grime artists, I can't ignore the talent. This mixtape has features from Ashley Walters and Wretch 32, as well as a track with Bashy and her F64 infact. Download the mixtape here, and check the tracklisting after the jump.
Slaughter & SRG - Wicked TV Freestyle
With 'Ardest Barrers crew member Slaughter, you've got SRG for this Wicked TV freestyle. Recently a lot of talent has come out of the Bluestate of Lewisham, South London, and here's two more examples. SRG spits with a more slowed down style that would fit easily on rap. I don't think the beat by Silencer now under the name of Teddy did him any justice. He did well though, don't get me wrong, but a slower beat would of been better for his style. Non-other than Scarcious is behind the camera and responsible for this one, check the video below.
Devlin Feat. Giggs - Shot Music [Radio Rip]
Taken from Devz forthcoming album 'Bud, Sweat and Beers', it's clear why he was recently signed by Island Records. The same lable boasts such names as Wiley, Bless Beats and Tinchy Stryder. So it's not a bad move for the young Dagenham based MC now turned artist. Another track to get exclusive first play on Mista Jams show features the best rapper out of the UK Rap scene, Giggs. The gap between Grime, Rap and UK Hip-Hop is getting smaller and smaller by the day. This track will bring the fans together. Get the download link for the radio rip here.
Slix Feat. Scorcher & Hafeez - Flee Before Tomorrow [Video]
Slix (right) said a week or so back in his Street Starz interview (here) that he wants to get his face all over the internet, here's his next step in his masterplan. Shot by the river in Bow, East London, it also features the man who knows about living in a Concrete Jungle, Scorcher, and Hafeez on the hook. It's good to see Slix back, and with Tinchy signed to Island Records, and Fuda Guy jumping on a track alongside Stryder with Blame, Ruff Sqwad should have a big year. Rumor has it a EP is in the making. An album will drop before we see Guns & Roses Volume 3 though.
Tempa T- Chatting Shit [Video]
For all those who think Tempz went soft with the track 'Do What You Do', your mistaken. Yeah the audio has been around for a while, but Tempa T has shot a new video for the track via Grime Daily. This is looking a lot more professional compared to other videos shot by them, and I personally like it. It may only be a short track, but the video does it justice. Tempz featured in the latest UK Urban film called Shank, which is out now. Personally, I'm waiting for Orange Wednesday, then I'll watch it next week.
Sukh Knight & P Money - 1Xtra Live
The other night P Money went along to BBC 1Xtra for Nihals show. P has a five minute interview with Nihal before performing his banger of a track known as 'Slang Like This'. As usual, whenever the OGz crew member gets on the airwaves, he tears it down. Dubstep fans and Grime fans can unite for this track. Afterwards if you want to keep listening is Sukh Knights live mix. To jump straight to the track go to around five and a half minutes. It's also up for free download if you want it for your iTunes.
Cookie - Street Starz Interview
The girls of Street Starz catch up with Cookie off the back of the release of his new video, L.O.V.E. The recent track coming off the Recipe EP. As well as talking about the new video, Cookie talks about how come he hasn't done a F64 yet, as well as the change in the Grime scene. Don't forget to check my quick interview from a few months back just after I started here.
Macca - 0'10 (Spaceship Anthem) [Preview]
The Stay Fresh crew recently have got a lot of publicity thanks to their producer S-X. One of their members Macca is releasing his new track on the 9th April. You've probably heard some of the bars on his recently freestyle over the Woo riddum for Tim & Barry TV (here). Also, the other day alongside Apostle, Tazzle, Dapz, & Trauma, Macca was on a set which is downloadable here. Check Dapz' recent freestyle for Looselips TV here and the preview of Maccas latest track below.
Diesle - Moving Straight [Video]
The other day, Tweets were exchanged, and it looks like Diesle doesn't want to leave the Grime scene anytime soon from what he said, this track confirms it. The video was shot by Rsky of Risky Roadz and edited into a black and white version for more effect. Diesle states he's fully on music now and there isn't going to be anymore distractions stopping him.
M.I.K - The Sick Pay EP (Free EP Download)
Yesterday I gave showcased one of the tracks from the EP, and I said it would drop very soon. Well here it is. Eight full tracks plus two bonus tracks from the South Londoner M.I.K of the crew Family Tree. You've got his recent 'Woo Freestyle' alongside seven others and two bonus tracks like I just stated. Productions include Spooky, J Beatz and Wiley. Download here, and find out the two bonus tracks after the jump.
Romo - Hold It Down
Today we have something a little different from the Midlands man. It still has it's Grime elements, but with a lighter sounds rather than the typical Grime we know. Romo recently has been putting his face about and his vocals on pretty music everything to help promote himself. It's working. If your wondering, the production Emvee for Flush Music.
Nico Lindsay - GSi TV Interview & Freestyle
GSi TV catchs up with Nico Lindsay and gets a quick little interview followed by a even quicker freestyle. Nico talks about how he got in to game at the age of fourteen, plus his new EP coming out soon called the 'Observation EP' alongside a new video that's dropping soon too view here. He's recently been on a the radio a lot simply promoting himself. Even thought he's releasing a EP soon, he's also working on his next mixtape called the 'Best of the Patch 2'. If you think you recognise the name, but still can't put your name to face, maybe this will refresh your memory, here. Check it the interview and freestyle below.
Jammz / Teeza - Air Bubble (Remixes)
Jammz and Teeza have both decided to do remixes of Terror Danjahs latest project, Air Bubble. They're two completely different remixes of the instrumental. Jammz remix is flirting with a more of a Dubstep sound with his choice of wobble and bass, but the Grime element of course is still overpowering. Teeza has gone in the opposite direction and moves the beat towards a more of a Garage and Grime mash-up. One remix has gone with the modern sound, and the another has taken a step back to what we use to listen to back in the day. Both are well respected efforts. Check them both out below with Jammz remix first, then Teezas.
Ghetts - BDBTV Freestyle
BDBTV catch up with the recent artist who clashes with one of the best in Grime, P Money. Ghetts shows use why he once claimed he was Top 3 selected, and it's easy to say, he still is. This is just another reason why he should of clashed P Money live. Ghetts clearly shows us why he's rated so highly in the Grime scene, plus why everyone is anticipating his forthcoming release, Calm Before the Storm.
A-List - Say So
The latest A-List track has a sort of oriental sound to it with the background chimes, but then again, that's probably the producer just playing around with new sounds. This time around you've got two Roll Deep members and one of Manchesters finest on the A-List track entitled 'Say So'. The line up is the Godfather of Grime, Wiley, before moving onto Wrigley and finishing with J2K. If you want to hear what the next track is, click here. I blogged it a few weeks back (second track, here). Don't miss the new tracks on Wileys MySpace either (here).
Sway - How Low Freestyle [Video]
No crew, he's solo. Sway (left) is back, and back with a bang. Track two off his recent free mixtape, The Delivery (here) has been turned into a hood video. The video is simple, nothing complicated about it. It's great having loads of tracks out, but it's even better getting a few videos out for a selected few. I don't reccomend watching this after having a few drinks, the camera shots are spinning me out already. A decent video never-the-less.
Bashy - London Tonight Interview
Bish Bash Bosh has been a positive role model that has come out of the Grime scene. Yes, he was clashing with Wiley at a point and did meantion somebodys sister, but he's moved on since then. Here's his recent interview on London Tonight from the other day. I've had so much to blog and so little time, sorry it's late. Check the Sky+ recording sign at the start. Thanks to whoever recorded it, Shank the Film is out today!
Words Feat. Rapid - Streets Is I [Video]
I posted this on GrimeForum in the early hours of Thursday morning, yet it's taken me over 24 hours to actually blog it...Rapid recently has come out from behind the desk and jumped infront of the mic. Not only does he produce beats now, he likes to vocal them too. Whether that be with bars or singing. For his latest track he hooked up with Words for the track 'Streets Is I'. If your going to shoot a video, get it done properly, Risky Roadz behind the camera again for this piece of art.
M.I.K - Grime To Five Freestyle
Freshly uploaded to YouTube, here we have M.I.Ks latest freestyle. It's taken from the forthcoming free downloadable EP entitled 'The Sick Pay EP'. Alongside this track his recent freestyle over S-Xs infamous beat the 'Woo Riddim' will also make a feature. The Family Tree crew member this time uses a General Tank production to put his lyrics over. The EP contains eight tracks plus rumor has it a further two bonus tracks. 'The Sick Pay EP' is out very soon...
Logan X Palladium - Still Keeping It Grimey (Free Mixtape)
We all know Logan is the best in the business when it comes to Grime DJs, but mixtapes? Yeah he's put together the War Dubs mixtape which where very good, but this one, tops them all. You've got everyone from Trim to Bloodline to Badness. Of course you've got a couple of tracks that have already been put out e.g. Griminal - ChaChing Freestyle and Rapid - Go Rapid. But, a big but, you've got fresh material too. Hooligan Remix by Bloodline, OGz - What The Rass and Newham Generals - Introduction. There's no artwork, but we'll forgive him for that one. Download here, catch the tracklist as usual after the jump.
Tinchy Stryder - Catch 22 Tour Video (Ep. 6)
Okay, so I lied. Episode five wasn't the last video, here it is. Tinchy wraps up the Catch 22 in the univercity town known as Cambridge. When the crowd scream Stryders name in sync, that's when you realise how far he's come...
Startzy & Terrorsum – Reply To Marvell Mic Fight Challenge
It looks like Marvell may have their challengers for the Mic Fight organised by Rsky of Risky Roadz. Members of the Grime scene all come together on Twitter and that's where everyone hypes. Apprently Marvell did exactly this. Startzy and Terrorsum weren't fans of this, and looks like it's on at Mic Fight. Check the video below for a more detailed description and freestyles from both MCs. Don't miss Terrorsums freestyle the other day filmed by Cameraman Sketch (here).
Skandal, Black the Ripper, Little Dee - Kill 'Em Wit The Flow [Video]
It turns out that this version of the track isn't even going to be released as the main version, the remix with P Money and Klashnekoff will be. A bit like the whole Wiley - Never Be Your Woman situation then. The original leaked last July, yet the Shy FX remix got released as the main version. On this version we've got North Londoner Black the Ripper alongside OG crew member Little Dee.
As Charlie Sloth has been very sucessful with his mini-internet series infront and behind the camera, he's done half the job here, he' shoots the video. The title of the track for once unlike most music videos these days, has been taken into consideration. The situation is that the artists chase a person who I assume owes them something, and then they kill 'em wit the flow. They get blown up. It's similar graphics to Charlie Sloths previous video actually (here). The 'A Quick Snack EP' is out on the 29th March produced entirely by Beat Butcha.
